In 1929 Ed Broome, an optician, opened Broome Optical on the third floor of the historic Fisk Building on Polk Street in downtown Amarillo (now the Courtyard by Marriott).  Later the business moved to the ground floor (shown).  In 1956 Ed Broome's nephew, Gary Blankenship, an optician, and Dr. Jess Ghormley, an optometrist, purchased Broome Optical.  In 1961 Dr. Art McKay joined the business and a second location was opened in Wolflin Village.  Dr. Dean Beddow joined Broome Optical at the Wolflin Village location in 1966.  

1978 - The downtown and Wolflin Village locations closed and a new facility was opened at 3408 Olsen Blvd. Dr. Burwell Southern joined Broome Optical. 

1988 - Broome Optical opened a second office at 34th and 
Bell. 

1992 - Dr. Joe Williams joined Broome Optical.

1996 - Broome Optical closes the 34th and Bell location and welcomes Dr. Jim Martin to its practice. 

1992 - Rick Blankenship, nephew of Ed Broome the original owner and son of Gary Blankenship, brings his business, Plasti-Lab - a optical surfacing and finishing lab - to Broome Optical.
 
 
1995 - Dr. Neal Nossaman joins Broome Optical.  

1996 - Broome Optical becomes a division of Panhandle Eye Group, LLP - the largest eye care group between Dallas and Albuquerque.
 
 
 
 
 
 
2010 - Dr. Mai-Vy Hoang joins Broome Optical.  
 
2011 - Broome Optical is purchased by Drs. Beddow, Martin, Nossaman and Williams.
 
 Rick Blankenship, nephew of the founder of Broome Optical, continues to serve as Operations Manager.
